costume
lady_jester.jpgIt's a fact: first impressions account for a lot of the decisions others make of us about how they will relate to us. How a person dresses - be it onstage, in film, at a party or a professional event - tells. The process of designing costumes for theatre & film productions is something I'm passionate about, and plan to continue in my career.
For you who are considering hiring me to dress you but are unsure how it goes: the basic process of designing and fabricating a costume goes like this:

  1. 1. Discuss intentions and circumstances planned for the garment, and budget.
  2. 2. Make a contract agreeing on payment and schedule.
  3. 3. Research; where I gather information and do sketches.
  4. Preliminary design sketches are presented and discussed until a solution is reached.
  5. On approval, fabrication process begins and includes measurements, fittings, alterations, etc.
  6. Costume is handed over to proud new owner, payment is handed over to proud designer/creator!
My interest in garmentry spreads into fashion, costume construction, mask-making, jewelry - who knows where I'll stop?

In this content category you'll find articles about shows for which I've contributed costume designs. For many of these projects I also did the technical fabrication as well.

  • fabrication

In this category you will see costumes and other items I have made, from customized garments to silkscreened reusable shopping bags. Many of the shows I have designed for, I created garments and other items for as part of my job, but sometimes I am called on for a specific commission, or I get crafty of my own volition.
